recap / box score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Darrell Hackney threw for 334 yards and four touchdowns, and Corey White ran for a career-high 200 yards, leading UAB to a 37-20 victory over Memphis on Tuesday night.

Parker Mullins added three field goals for the Blazers (4-4, 2-3 Conference USA), who snapped a three-game losing streak and recorded its sixth straight win in the series.

Memphis running back DeAngelo Williams finished with 167 yards rushing for the Tigers (3-3, 4-4), but he was limited to 48 in the second half after being hampered by a left ankle injury sustained late in the first quarter.

White was the surprise dominant runner, recording his first 100-yard game of the season. The rushing attack helped the Blazers, who have the conference's best passing game, rally in the second half after trailing 20-17 at the break.

UAB controlled the clock with the running attack and long drives with White carrying the load.

White gained 94 yards in the third period and finished with 172 yards in the second half.

Darrell Hackney completed a pair of second-half touchdown passes of 11 and 28 yards to Reggie Lindsey, who finished with seven catches for 111 yards.

The Blazers were without starting defensive end Larry McSwain. The junior didn't make the trip after being suspended by coach Watson Brown for violating unspecified team rules.

DeAngelo Williams and Darrell Hackney starred in the first half. Memphis led 20-17 on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Maurice Avery to Maurice Jones, a 2-yard run by Ernest Williams and a pair of field goals by Stephen Gostkowski.

But DeAngelo Williams had recorded his 31st 100-yard game by the break, carrying 10 times for 119 yards, the bulk of it coming on his season-long 76-yard run in the first quarter that set up Ernest Williams' touchdown. It was after an 8-yard run, with about two minutes left in the quarter, when Williams limped off the field.

Darrell Hackney completed 18 of 29 passes for 248 yards in the half. Toward the end of the half, Darrell Hackney connected on 10 straight, and had touchdown passes of 8 yards to Norris Drinkard and 25 yards to Jhun Cook.
