recap / box score

LAS VEGAS _ Air Force is back on a winning streak.

Quarterback Chance Harridge ran for 114 yards and accounted for four touchdowns to lead Air Force over UNLV 49-32 Saturday.

The Falcons (8-3, 4-2 Mountain West) have won two straight after losing three in a row. Air Force opened the season 6-0.

``It was a complete team effort,'' Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry said. ``We've won eight ballgames and that shows an awful lot of character from our young men.''

The loss ended UNLV's (4-7, 2-4 Mountain West) hopes for a bowl bid.

``It's very emotional,'' UNLV coach John Robinson. ``Air Force played a great game. We felt like we had to keep Harridge from having one of those days. They blocked us extremely well. They're an outstanding football team.''

Harridge ran for two touchdowns, threw for two more and completed 4 of 8 passes for 102 yards. He tied a school record for career rushing touchdowns with 19.

Darnell Stephens ran for 89 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons.

Air Force capitalized on two UNLV turnovers in the second half, including a fumble by Dominique Dorsey at the Falcons' 1 with 2:14 left in the third. Dorsey ran for 101 yards.

``We needed a stop there,'' Air Force safety Larry Duncan said. ``I tried to break down (Dorsey) and force him one way. I just hit him.''

The Rebels cut the deficit to 28-25 on a 17-yard touchdown run by Larry Croom with 13:02 left in the game.

UNLV had a chance to tie or take the lead with the ball at its own 46 with 8:54 left. On fourth-and-one, quarterback Jason Thomas fumbled the snap and recovered, but did not get the first down.

``Our defense stood up at that point,'' DeBerry said. ``Give UNLV credit. They played very hard. As long as Jason Thomas is the quarterback, anything can happen. He is capable of making the big play.''

Air Force put the game away with three touchdowns _ Harridge's 34-yard pass to J.P. Waller, a 3-yard TD run by Steve Massie and a 16-yard run by Darnell Stephens.

UNLV's Jason Thomas completed 9 of 20 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown.

After being tied at 14 at halftime, Air Force took the lead for good on Harridge's 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Alec Messerall's 61-yard kickoff return to the Rebels' 39 set up the score.
