BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Boise State delivered its message
with a barrage of offensive fireworks.
Ryan Dinwiddie made an impressive return to the lineup, throwing
five touchdown passes as Boise State rolled to a 67-21 victory
over Fresno State in Western Athletic Conference matchup.
Last season, Fresno State won its first six games before
suffering a 35-30 home loss to Boise State in a nationally
televised game on a Friday night.
The teams finished tied at the end of the season in the WAC
standings, but Fresno State was chosen for the Silicon Valley
Bowl despite the loss to its conference rival.
With extra motivation, another national TV audience and the
largest crowd (30,924) to ever watch a sporting event in Idaho,
the Broncos got their revenge with a record-setting performance
of their own.
Dinwiddie, who missed the last four games with a broken ankle,
came off the bench in the second quarter and completed 19-of-22
passes for 406 yards. He threw four TDs after halftime.
Brock Forsey rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns for Boise
State (6-1, 3-0 WAC), which gained a school-record 688 total
yards.
Rocky Atkinson had two touchdown receptions and Lou Fanucchi had
eight catches for 178 yards and a score for the Broncos, who
raced to a 27-7 halftime lead.
Boise State continued to be an offensive machine, scoring over
50 points for the fourth straight game. The Broncos are 6-0 at
home since entering the WAC last season, averaging 52.2 points
during that span.
Freshman Paul Pinegar passed for 371 yards and three touchdowns
for the Bulldogs (4-4, 2-1), who had won three straight games
since suffering a 59-19 rout at Oregon State on September 21.
