SAN DIEGO -- Reynaldo Brathwaite ran for a school-record 95-yard touchdown in the second quarter as BYU beat San Diego State 44-36 Saturday night.
Brathwaite's run was the high point of a 24-point second quarter outburst that put the Cougars (3-3, 2-1) ahead for good.
After San Diego State (3-3, 0-1) opened the scoring on a 44-yard fumble return by defensive lineman Brook Miller in the game's opening series, BYU evened the score on a 4-yard touchdown run by quarterback John Beck. It was BYU's first rushing touchdown of the season, and the first rushing touchdown allowed by the San Diego State defense this season.
Beck ran for 52 yards and threw for 180 on 17-of-26 passing.
San Diego State (3-3, 0-1) receiver Jeff Webb had 10 catches for 253 yards, the most receiving yards in an NCAA game this season, and three touchdowns.
Aztecs quarterback Adam Hall, playing in his first game in five weeks after spraining his ankle in the season opener, threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns, all to Webb.
San Diego State got to within seven on a 39-yard J.C. Mejia field goal on the last play of the half, but BYU scored the first points of the third quarter on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Beck to Naufahu Tahi.
San Diego State cut the deficit to 11 with a 55-yard touchdown pass from Hall to Webb, but could get no closer than 41-36 midway through the fourth quarter.
